MSDN Academic Alliance

The MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDN AA) is a service allowing UNR College of Engineering students to purchase certain software products from Microsoft at a reduced price. Any UNR student with an active ECC account is eligible for this program. Click here for a list of products currently available through MSDN AA.

MSDN AA Registration Instructions

1) Obtain your student identifier
From a Windows Machine:
-double click on the PuTTY icon on the desktop (Or if you are doing this from your machine install PuTTY.
-for the Host Name type “remote.ecc.unr.edu”
-click open
-login using your ECC username and password (you may need to enter your password twice.)

Also, you will not be able to see the password being typed but terminal is receiving the characters.

-type ‘id’ without quotes
-your student identifier is the four digit number after the uid
uid=xxxx
-make note of this before closing the window as you will need it to create your MSDN AA account
-type exit

From a Linux Machine:
-open a terminal window
-type ‘id’ without quotes
-your student identifier is the four digit number after the uid
uid=xxxx
-make note of this before closing the window as you will need it to create your MSDN AA account

2) Go to the MSDN AA Login page and click “Register”

3) Enter your username. Username is your last name(case sensitive) followed by a student identifier without the space. For Example, Smith1234. If your last name contains space or ‘-’, please include it.

4) Enter your e-mail address. If your e-mail address contains an underscore, please use different one.

5) Enter a secure password. (This password should be different from your ECC account password.)

6) Click “Submit.”

When logging in, username is your last name(case sensitive) followed by a student identifier. For example, Smith1234.
